Matriarch MCL114 and MCL54 Slew Loader Trials Begin
Matriarch Equipment at Sabie Forest Fair 2010
Matriarch MCL114 and MCL54 Slew Loader Trials Begin Matriarch Equipment reached another important milestone in its history when the company’s prototype MCL114 machine loaded its first in-field sugar cane trailer outside Felixton in Kwazulu-Natal, on Saturday 17 September 2011.
The larger of the two slew loader models planned for production by Matriarch during 2012, the MCL114 is an 11-ton gross weight unit capable of loading 90 to 110 tons of sugar cane per hour. Fuel consumption at these rates is an impressive at 9 to 10 litres per hour.
The smaller version of the company’s slew loader concept, the MCL54, is a 5-ton gross weight machine with an estimated loading rate of 50 to 60 tons per hour. Essentially this is a scaled down version of the MCL114. Production of the MCL54 is planned to follow the MCL114 during the course of 2012.
Both machines are four-wheel drive, fitted with high flotation wheels, ensuring superior traction with minimum risk of infield compaction.
The company will continue to run the two prototype models in sugar cane loading applications for the remainder of the 2011 season. Initially they will be kept in the close vicinity of Matriarch Equipment’s workshop facility in Richards Bay, but the company plans to run them in different areas of the country for sales demonstration purposes and diversification in operating environments.
At the end of the sugar cane harvest, both units will be fitted with timber grapples and run in timber loading applications, where a great deal of interest in this concept of loading tool has been shown by the industry.
Further reports on testing progress will be posted on the website.
